Puerto Rico Group Celebrates Group Leader
On December 26, the Recovery International group in Guayama, Puerto Rico presented Group Leader Alfonso Duprey with a commemorative plaque in appreciation for his five years of dedication to the group. Area Leader Hector Solivan presented the plaque followed by a small celebration of the occasion. The new Group Leader for 2010 is Bernard Seifert, a four-year RI member.

El líder de Área, Hector Solivan, le presentó la placa seguido de un pequeño compartir para celebrar la ocasión. Le sucederá a Alfonso, para el 2010, Bernard Seifert, miembro por los pasados 4 años.

Abraham Low Self-Help Systems Announces Contest to Name Its 75th Anniversary
CHICAGO – September 23, 2009 – In preparations for its 75th anniversary celebration in 2012, Abraham Low Self-Help Systems announces a contest to come up with the tag line for the anniversary. The winning phrase will be included in all events and public relations activities associated with the 75th anniversary, including the gala celebration.
The organization is celebrating more than seven decades of its peer-to-peer cognitive behavioral self-help programs, which started with Recovery International in Chicago and has grown to 600 meetings across the country, telephone meetings and online forums. The organization also offers The Power to Change, an anger and fear management program for adolescents age 12-18 and people in correctional/judicial systems, as well as programs for veterans, state hospitals and other organizations.
The 75th anniversary celebration will take place May 25-26, 2012, at the historic Palmer House Hilton, Chicago. The winner of the contest will receive one free hotel night at the Palmer House and will be recognized at the event.
Deadline for entries is November 1, 2009. The contest is only open to members of Abraham Low Self-Help Systems. Dues start at $20 per year, so sign up today to take part in this exciting contest.

Recovery International Eye on America Program to Air May 18 on CNN/Headline News in Detroit
CHICAGO, May 11, 2009 – The Recovery International Eye on America television program will air in Detroit, Monday, May 18, on CNN/Headline News. The five-minute program hosted by Greg Gumbel provides a history of Recovery International and insight into the Recovery International cognitive behavioral training system.
The program includes stories from people whose lives have been changed by Recovery’s system and interviews with Recovery International president Celinda Jungheim and board member Carl Bell, MD.

As you may recall, our first touch with Recovery International occurred in late 2005 when two Oregon State Hospital (OSH) residents asked Debra Lamp, OSH mental health specialist, to take them to a Recovery International group meeting in Salem. Word spread as people began to learn and use the Recovery International self-help system and saw how they increased their ability to deal appropriately with anger and fears, to interact more positively with peers and staff, and to lead more peaceful, calm and productive daily lives.

Recovery International YouTube Community Surpasses 7,000 Visits
March 19, 2009 – Since its launch in August 2008, the Recovery International YouTube community has surpassed 7,000 visits and even had an increase of 1,000 visits in less then four weeks between February and March. The community page features personal testimonials, the Eye on America television mini-program and a video about The Power to Change in Schools.

February 19, 2009 – Recovery International has developed a community on social networking site Facebook. The community page will serve as an additional method of word-of-mouth marketing via the Web and will include announcements about Recovery International and Facebook-only features.
