Several weeks ago, I was on assignment with a group of clients to find sewer manholes in park area. After finding the first two sites, I left on a paved trail to see if another group of manholes could be found on the same trail. It took longer than expected; when I returned to the original site, no one was there and I did not pass them on the trail. That's when I began to work myself up. (P.S. I did not take my cell phone with me, so remote communication was unavailable at the time)
I became confused, tense, and preoccupied. Racing fearful thoughts and tightness in the throat and chest.
I decided, planned, and acted. I substituted a total view for a partial viewpoint. The clients, their opinions of me, and what I had done were now in the outer environment. I spotted that it was average for misunderstandings to happen. It was distressing but not dangerous. Eventually I got to my phone and communicated. The client was not overly critical. I endorsed. We endorse for our successes and refrain from condemning ourselves for our failures. ("What we have here, is failure to communicate." - Cool Hand Luke
Before Recovery, I would have become more agitated. I would have brooded afterwards, suspicious of the clients reassurances. I would have acted on the impulse to complain to my colleagues.

Oldtimer had the courage to make a mistake (if one was made). He became objective and objectivity wipes out emotionalism. An inner endorsement is a need and an outer endorsement is a want. This event was a triviality compare to his mental health. He chose to be self-led rather than symptom-led. A self-led person is a secure person. An act of self-control leads to a sense of self-respect. He couldn't change the situation so he changed his attitude towards it. Oldtimer bore the discomfort and comfort came. Expect disappointments, frustrations, and irritations on a daily basis and you won't be disappointed. He was group-minded by controlling his speech muscles. Oldtimer can endorse himself for his efforts and not only for his performance or even for the outcome.

This is phasic not basic. Endorse for the effort not the outcome. We get well in direct proportion to the amt of discomfort we are willing to bear. |

Oldtimer can endorse for controlling his speech muscles and not complaining to his colleagues. Dr. Low tells us, "Mistakes are a natural, wholesome, even desireable part of life." Expect frustration every five minutes and you won't be disappointed.
People do things that annoy us, not necessarily to annoy us. Dr. Low also tells us, "A sence of humor is borne out of indifference to irritations no matter how severe." |

| Oldtimer can excuse not accuse for the sake of his mental health. Having the courage to make a mistake (if it was a mistake). High average use of RI. |
