I have a question.

Is it sabotage to potentially try a new treatment out overseas that my doctor knows nothing about? I have been following my doctors instructions in terms of medication and have been also using recovery now for over 2 months. I have come across a new treatment which looks promising and if were here in Ireland I would request but it is not. On bad days I think of the treatment and that it is something I could always try out. It is available in the US. Am I sabotaging and stepping in and making things worse for myself or should I allow myself to hope that I could always try it out - as Dr Low says our mental health should take priority.

Any thoughts. Many thanks. Michael

Hhh mmm?

What do you suspect? And can you be a bit more specific about what you mean by treatment, please. That might help us. It is a good question. We need to recognize when we are sabotaging.

Hi the treatment is rTMS - it is FDA approved for anxiety and depression where anti-depressants are not working. Now I know in the world of mental health 15 months is not a long time but for me it has seemed like an eternity. So I am not sure if it is sabotage.....Dr. Low says to go with your physician but I know he also used the latest technology at the time.

Trust your basic functions.

Have the courage to make a mistake in the trivialities of everyday life.

Mistakes make us smarter.

Anticipate securely or not at all.

A firm decision will steady you.

Who of us in Recovery did or does not search out looking for that one answer, magic pill or just the right physician. That in its self only makes us human and average. We may think that in this day and age with all the new technology and sophistication that Dr. Low’s teachings have just not caught up with the times. My personal answer is that, Dr. Low’s teachings and his method have always been ahead of the times. Yes there will always be new treatments, but there are no to a quick fixes. I will work with my doctor and trust that if something comes available, I will be informed and that is what I believe Dr. low is telling us to do.. With all the treatments I have had in the U.S. I am still working day by day to get and keep my good mental health. I would have to say that most of my symptoms came from the way I was thinking. I have to study and retrain my thoughts as Dr. Low prescribes. Trust me there is no treatment to change that and I have many treatments, hospitalizations and many medications over my 35 years of suffering. Here is the good news; I have been in Recovery for a little over 3 years now. The first year was the hardest because it wanted and was desperate for that quick fix. I didn’t want to be a patient, patient. I tried and failed constantly, but I also noticed and my family noticed I was changing little by little for the better. Now this does not mean I have not experienced setbacks, but now I was handling them and my symptoms with the help of my fellow apprentices and the tools Dr. Low has given us. I hope you will remember that this illness was fate appointed, but you are not helpless or hopeless. It’s not an easy, quick fix method but a life changing method that requires self disciplines, patience, study and practice. We all know what you’re experiencing and we are all very excited at the prospect of you enjoying a bright secure future!

Best Wishes, Kathleen

Here are some of my favorite spottings on patience:

Patience- If my patients had more patience, I would have less patients.
Patience- The Patient Wants the Ends of Health, Not Its Means (Chapter 49 in MHTWT
Patience- Veteran members caution us that Recovery training is not easy, nor is it a quick fix. It requires sustained effort and practice over a period of time. We can be patient with ourselves and allow our Recovery training to come to us at our own pace. Our mental health is our supreme goal.
Patience- Dr. Low reminds us to be kind and patient with our selves. This will be an opportunity to practice Recovery Training and learning how to resolve outer environment situations in an average way.
Patience-We in recovery must cultivate patience and reject the quick fix.
Patience-Be patient with impatience.
Patience-We can also take another secure thought that as we become skilled in the RI method and with patience, comfortable feelings are just around the corner
Patience-Patience is required to allow the secure thoughts to set in along with a reduction in symptoms.
