How to Post Your Meeting on Craigslist

Craigslist is a popular online bulletin board. It is a great place to spread the word about your Recovery International or RI Discovery meeting–especially to a younger demographic–free!

To post an announcement, go to www.craigslist.org. If you don’t have an account follow their instructions to set one up.

Postings expire after seven days, so announcements need to be re-posted every week. However, you can cut and paste the announcement title and text to make re-posting easier and faster.

1. Select your city or state.

Click on “Post to Classifieds” in the upper left corner

Note the important reminder: “Please post to a single geographic area and category only --  cross-posting to multiple cities or categories is not allowed.”

2. Under “What type of posting is this,” select “Community.”

3. Under “Please choose a category,” select “Groups.”

4. Under “Choose the area nearest you,” select the appropriate neighborhood or area.

5. Under “Create posting,” you will be able to enter your announcement.

Note the important reminder: “Your posting will expire from the site in 7 days.”

6. On the posting form, enter title and text of your announcement form, along with your email address.

7. Enter your email address again to confirm

8. Select the button for “reply to: comm-xxxxxxxxx@craigslist.org (craigslist anonymizes your real address and relays replies to it)”

9. Press “Continue”

10. Preview your posting. Make any changes if necessary, or if not, enter the verification word that you see, and click “Continue”

11. Accept the terms of use

You will receive an email at the email address you listed which confirms your posting. Click on the link in the email and your posting will go live on the site!

As noted in the reminders, one person cannot double-post the same announcement in multiple areas. However, different individuals can post the same announcement in their own areas. So check to see if someone else has posted in your area.
